Enjoy Spanish Cava At The Cava Festival
20th Anniversary of Cava Week
For the last 20 years the Cava festival has become one of the most popular events of the year.
The Penedès region of Catalunya is famous for its Cava and especially the residents of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia
who produces 70% of the total production of cava in Catalunya.
Only the best wine is used in the production of cava and probably the most famous of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia cava is the internationally famous Freixenet Cava which is grown and produced here.
Main grape varieties used to develop the cava wines are the Macabeu, Xarel.lo, Parellada and Chardonnay varieties.

Every year Sant Sadurní d'Anoia celebrates the harvest with a major festival of gastronomic and cultural events.
The festival begins with inaugural speeches followed by the crowning of the years Cava Queen who then receives a glass of Spanish cava from the years harvest. This is followed by a lavish dinner.
The entire week is full of gastronomic feasts and cultural events which include Catalan folk music concerts and the traditional Cava train ride from Barcelona to the town of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia.
Cava Train
Over a 1,000 people board the Cava train from Barcelona for the festival town of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. This is a joyful event made even more fun with carnival characters such as the traditional big heads and cabezudos.
On arrival everyone is escorted to the town hall and Cava
Houses where you can tour the cellars. This is followed by lunch and entertainment.
