Columbus Monument
(Monument a Colom)

columbus monument

Columbus Monument towers above the Port of Barcelona and visitors arriving in Barcelona by ferry have this welcoming site to greet them as they enter the city.

The monument is just a few yards away from the famous La Rambla which marks the entrance to the city from the waterfront.

Monument a Colom was built in 1888 for the Universal Exhibition and now dominates the area. On a clear day you can see Montjuïc in the background.

Many visitors to Barcelona enjoy taking the small lift inside the monument to the top of Columbus. Those that do are rewarded with spectacular views of the sea and city.
